Representation Matters: Celebrating Christian Corvos

September 13, 2021 Traci Holland

Christian Corvos, Director of Inside Sales and Support for C&I Customer Resolution, has been lighting the way at Acuity Brands for over 16 years! His favorite aspect about his career is building teams and bringing the best out of his team members by promoting a great atmosphere, trust, support, and growth. “It is important to have a positive work environment and teamwork as we set the foundation to do our best work to serve our customers.”

For Christian, his Hispanic Heritage is a reminder of where he came from. “It has influenced my values and the type of person I am today. It has also given me a broader cultural understanding and appreciation of where I am today.” Christian celebrates his Hispanic Heritage all year round by making traditional meals, talking to his children and friends about some of his traditions, teaching the history of his country, and sharing pictures of the beautiful landscape and natural resources.

Originally from Caracas, Venezuela, he is fluent in Spanish. He came to the U.S. to play baseball! Upon arriving in the U.S. he learned English (with a strong southern accent). While Christian would call baseball and cooking his hidden talents, his wife would argue that his real hidden talent or superpower is his ability to fall asleep very quickly.

As a leader, he knows that work-life balance is of utmost importance. That’s why outside of work, you will likely find Christian spending time with his family. He loves to watch his boys play sports, coaching them, and being a part of their milestones as they are growing into young adults with good morals and values. If he could design a perfect day, it would include hanging out with family and friends at the beach or in the mountains, playing games, cooking out, and enjoying some cocktails. Cheers to that!

What qualities do you prefer in a leader/manager?
Someone who is data and process-driven, understanding of work-life balance, supportive of career development, and open to collaboration and teamwork.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Spain! Because of the stunning scenery, rich history, and delicious cuisine. Also, so I can visit my best friend. It would be a super fun trip for sure.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to control time! Time flies, and it often seems we do not fully enjoy special moments in our life. I would like more time to enjoy those moments and more time with loved ones. Also, being a parent makes you realize how quickly children grow; it’s scary fast.

Who is at your dream dinner party (living or not)? Why? What are you serving?
I would say, Babe Ruth, my late uncle Alexis, my late grandfather, my dad, and my brother. We would talk about baseball and share anecdotes. Then, I would probably invite them all to B.P. (hits batting practice). After that, we would probably have some steak with some cocktails.
