Justin Rowe

Supply Chain Intern | University of Iowa

What skills are you developing through your internship? What excites you about working at Acuity Brands?

Through my internship so far, I have learned a lot about what goes into successfully running a manufacturing facility. From worker safety to production cell design and inventory systems, I have already gotten a large amount of exposure to all the major and minor details that truly make things work. I hope to keep learning new things every day that expand my knowledge and experience in the field of supply chain, manufacturing, and industrial engineering. One of the things that really excites me about working for Acuity Brands is the opportunity to learn and grow with a company that has such a large, yet almost understated role in people's day-to-day lives. Seeing how the things I have been doing so far make a real impact with the company, our customers, and even the average person is really fulfilling to me.

Any hobbies, interests, or passions you’d like to share?

In my free time, I really love to golf. I'm also deeply interested in music, playing both guitar and bass but also listening to all different types of music.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have always wanted to travel around the rest of the United States as there is still so much natural beauty in this country I have yet to see in person. Internationally there are also many other places I would really love to travel to such as Italy and South Korea.

Sasikumaran Nandakumar

Mechanical Engineering Intern | Georgia Institute of Technology

What skills are you developing through your internship? What excites you about working at Acuity Brands?

Throughout the course of my internship so far, I've developed my skills to design and modify optics and light fixture parts. I also had the opportunity to prototype light fixtures using 3D printing. I was then able to assemble these parts to present the conceptual design to product managers and directors. Moreover, I learned to collaborate efficiently with my coworkers and manager every day and receive their help in completing new product development tasks. The most exciting part about working at Acuity Brands is that I'm able to work on earlier stages of the new product development process. I'm able to develop my design and prototyping skills hand in hand and that gives me the freedom to choose when to work from home and when to come into the office.

Any hobbies, interests, or passions you’d like to share?

I love to explore different cuisines by cooking different recipes every week when I'm free. I'm a huge foodie so I love to try out different restaurants during the weekend. I also love to play chess online during breaks. My main passion is to develop my hands-on skills and since I'm a prototyping instructor at the Georgia Tech Invention Studio makerspace, I have a wide array of tools to build personal prototype projects. I'm currently working on building a motorized skateboard!

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to travel to different cities in the US as well as Canada. I feel that I haven't gotten the chance to visit famous cities like Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. I also want to visit Savannah in Georgia this summer as I've heard it's a really beautiful place!

Richard Uriostegui

Design Intern | Bradley University

What skills are you developing through your internship? What excites you about working at Acuity Brands?

I'm hoping to learn the techniques and factors to improve the performance metrics in the lighting industry. What I like about working with Acuity Brands is the opportunity to be part of the manufacturing process. Being able to design, prototype, and assemble is something that has helped me understand the performance and efficiency of our products.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I’d love to go to Turkey!
