Roland Hayes School, Bushwick, Brooklyn

Roland Hayes School in Brooklyn New York set out to Increase efficiency and comfort while lowering its carbon footprint 40% by 2025 and 50% by 2030 to meet new energy laws set forth for city buildings in New York.

The school Custodian, Michael Finneran, participated in the CUNY Building Re-Tuning (BRT) program, the DCAS Load Management Training, and the DCAS Real-Time Metering Training before reaching out to Ramesh Narayan from the Sustainability Team within the Division of School to help identify and resolve numerous building operations issues at the school.

Why Distech Controls Technology?

The Sustainability and School Facilities offices identified the various site issues that were driving down efficiency and comfort and brought in Distech Controls’ authorized Systems Integrator, Controls Technologies (CTI) to do a detailed analysis and create a plan to bring the schools HVAC facility to optimum function. The CTI team surveyed the school and formulated a roadmap to improve the existing Building Management System using various Distech Controls solutions including the ECLYPSE controller.

Testimonial:

The building was able to reduce its overall energy usage by 23% and gas consumption by 43% to achieve an Energy Star rating of 90 while providing proper comfort control for the Building. Michael Finneran, who oversees the building, won the DCAS Demand Response Award and is now the recipient of an Energy Star award for energy reduction.
