Greenbuild 2018: LightFlex™ CCT Tubular Daylighting Systems from Sunoptics® Provide Natural Light to 118,000-sq.-ft. Goodwill Support Center

ATLANTA – November 8, 2018 – Goodwill® recently installed LightFlex™ CCT tubular daylighting systems from Sunoptics®, an Acuity Brands company, to provide natural light to its 118,000-sq.-ft. facility in Hampton, Virginia.  The LightFlex system brings natural light into interior spaces located in offices, schools, health care facilities and retailers that do not have direct access to daylight or the roof. The CCT option minimizes the color temperature variation between electric and natural light sources by shifting the color temperature of the sunlight to 3700K, allowing the skylights to match the color temperature of the electric light fixtures.

Goodwill converted an empty Big Box retail facility into three retail stores and a Community Employment Center.  While the facility proved to be a perfect size, the lack of windows and a 15-ft. drop ceiling provided no access to daylight.  In addition, building systems above the ceiling were in the way including hanging wires, ductwork, lighting fixtures and the sprinkler system.

The tubular design of the LightFlex system was able to navigate that crowded space and brought in natural daylight to the conference room and open office spaces. By installing a daylighting system and LED lighting, Goodwill estimates a 75 percent savings in lighting energy costs because the electric lights are turned off by the controls system for most of the day.

“Our integrated LightFlex solution creates uniform color in common spaces, allowing for a consistency in color specification while taking advantage of the unique benefits of natural daylight,” said Pete Shannin, General Manager, Sunoptics.  “LightFlex offers a comprehensive, sustainable and energy-efficient daylighting solution to drive improved energy efficiency and greater workplace productivity.”

Sunoptics will be showcasing its LightFlex portfolio at Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, November 14-16, at McCormick Place, Chicago (Booth 1435). Featured will be the new LightFlex™ Tunable White LED system, which provides natural light, electric light, or a combination of both via the same luminaire.  For more information about LightFlex systems, visit Sunoptics.
