The Latest Innovation News: Acuity Brands’ Hyperbolic-Ceiling Reflector Awarded Patent
Acuity Brands continues to develop new solutions to meet the needs of its customers such as our Hyperbolic Ceiling-Reflector, our latest innovation to receive a U.S. patent. Featuring an innovative shape and optical forward approach, the Hyperbolic Reflector was designed to minimize glare and aperture brightness generated by LED light sources. In the case of traditional downlight luminaires, for example, the full face of a typically shaped reflector can make the aperture look brighter, creating some glare and drawing more attention to the luminaire installed in the ceiling.
“The curvature design of the Hyperbolic Ceiling-Reflector cuts off the LED light before it reaches the bottom of the reflector, making the fixture appear essentially dark from any distance and thus less visible in the ceiling,” said Dan Fernandez, Director-Product Marketing, Architectural Downlighting and Track. “This unobtrusive or hidden effect creates a ‘silent ceiling’ that delivers the appropriate amount of light and doesn’t distract from or draw attention to unnecessary features in a space.”
The Hyperbolic Reflector will be available for directional light source specification in multiple beam spreads, with compatibility for various mounting heights and in a variety of colors and finishes to complement an array of lighting designs and spaces. The Hyperbolic Reflector is available to specify across multiple Aculux®, Gotham®, Indy® and Juno® downlight families in the Acuity Brands portfolio.
