Creating the Classroom of the Future with nLight®

Montville High School in Connecticut featured in recent LD+A article

Lighting controls upgrades not only can maximize energy efficiency by turning off or dimming lighting when spaces are not in use, they also can be used to supply optimal light levels for varying tasks. These include providing brighter lighting during teaching sessions and dimming lighting down to encourage resetting and relaxing after higher energy activities.

When the 167,000 sq. foot Montville High School facility was undergoing a recent renovation, establishing better lighting in the classrooms that could be adjusted to task levels for teachers and students was high on the list of priorities. The project charter was to create a “classroom of the future” that supported the student body and staff while generating an energy savings payoff.

nLight® wireless controls connected to LED luminaires were installed throughout the high school to provide customized control of light levels within individual classrooms and in other spaces. The nLight system interfaces with occupancy sensors that dim lights when rooms are not in use and turns lights on if visitors or staff are in the corridors/halls. The result is a grade-A project that is a win for the facility managers, the district and teachers, students and visitors.

This project included two nLight® solutions, the nLight® AIR rPODB DX (wireless wall switch to control light levels) and the nLight ECLYPSE™ System Controller (delivers advanced controls features for multiple rooms).
