Q-SYS Processors - Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Write through Server-Side Request Forgery

Author: Marius Creutznacher

Risk Category: High Document ID: QSYS-October-19-9005
Document Version: 1.0
 Document Status: Final

Description:

An unauthenticated attacker with network access to an affected Q-SYS Core may be able to abuse insufficient separation between externally reachable control functionality and privileged internal services. The issue is relevant when the deployed design uses scripting functionality. Successful exploitation could permit unauthorized system changes, execution with elevated privileges, information exposure, service disruption, or complete device compromise.

Impacted Product Name

Q-SYS Core Processors

Impacted Versions

Q-SYS Designer Version lower than 10.5.0

Impacts on Installed System

Successful exploitation may affect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected device, including unauthorized changes, information exposure, denial of service, and full system compromise.

How to Diagnose Installed System

Confirm whether the Core runs firmware earlier than 10.5.0 and whether it uses the affected system configuration (scripting functionalities). Determine whether the device is reachable from untrusted or insufficiently segmented networks.

Mitigation

  1. Install Q-SYS Designer version 10.5.0.
  2. Restrict device access to trusted systems, segment networks, and limit exposure of device services until the fixed release is installed.

Updated Version

Q-SYS 10.5

Issue Fixed Date
