With budgets being squeezed in districts everywhere, no one can afford to lose expensive perishable inventory, so when Cross Roads Independent School District lost a freezer of food in summer 2011 that cost them $10,000, it was a big deal.

Affordable monitoring and communication options are scarce , so when their local contractor, Quality Refrigeration, heard about the KE2 Evaporator Efficiency controller from his wholesaler, he was quickly convinced to try the controller at the Cross Roads school. Not only could the controller be setup to e-mail or text alarm alerts, it would also allow the school district to remotely monitor their walk-in’s performance.

In November 2011 KE2 Evap controllers were installed on the walk-in freezer and cooler at the school. The school immediately setup the alarming capability and communications.

Only a few weeks later the system was put to the test. One cold evening, over a weekend, a faulty head pressure control valve on one of the walk-ins, caused the system to shut off on a fault. The KE2 Evap alarmed on high air temperature, alerting them to the problem. The school was able to react immediately and prevent losing any of the food in the walk-in.

Conclusion

The inventory saved from receiving the high temp alert paid for the KE2 Evap controller, the labor cost for the install, and then some.
