Life Lessons: Cancer prevention is Up to Us – Griselda Vázquez.
Griselda Vázquez Montes is an operator at the Acuity Brands Plant in Mezquital, Nuevo León, Mexico. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. After several mammograms and ultrasounds, her doctors decided to perform a biopsy. When she received the results of the surgery, her life changed. "In reality, it changed my life, but at the same time I knew I had to accept it and my only option was to fight against it (cancer)," she said.
Her main motivation to keep going was her family. Her husband, her children, her daughter-in-law, and her grandson, have been the driving forces propelling her on her road to health. Thinking about them, she began to see things very differently and gathered the courage to start her fight against cancer. Fortunately, she responded well to treatments.
“My job has provided me with a lot of support. The truth is, I am very happy, and I have no words to thank the plant, the company, and my managers. I thank you for the great support you have given me,” said Griselda.
The life lesson that Griselda imparts on us is to act. “Cancer prevention is in our hands, we must pay attention to warning signs such as tumors, sores, pain; it is essential to have checkups and go to the doctor frequently.”

Griselda Vázquez Montes es operaria y trabaja en la planta de Acuity Brands en Mezquital, Nuevo León, México. La diagnosticaron con cáncer de mama hace 1 año 6 meses, posteriormente se realizó mastografías, ultrasonidos y al final los doctores decidieron hacerle una biopsia. Cuando recibió los resultados de la cirugía, cambió su vida: “en realidad, yo sentí que me cambió la vida, pero al mismo tiempo pensé que tenía que aceptarlo y que mi única opción era luchar contra él (cáncer)”.
Su principal motivación para seguir adelante fue su familia, su esposo, sus hijos, su nuera y su nieto, ellos han sido su motor para salir adelante. Pensando en ellos, comenzó a ver las cosas muy diferentes, se armó de valor y empezó su lucha contra el cáncer; y afortunadamente ha valido la pena pues ha salido bien de sus tratamientos e incluso de otra cirugía (histerectomía) que le practicaron.
“En mi trabajo me han apoyado demasiado, la verdad, estoy muy contenta y no tengo palabras para agradecerles a la planta y a la empresa, a mis jefes; les agradezco el gran apoyo que me han dado”, comentó Griselda.
La lección de vida que nos da la señora Griselda es tomar acción: “La prevención del cáncer está en nuestras manos, debemos estar atentos a los signos de alerta como tumores, llagas, dolores; es fundamental checarse y acudir al médico frecuentemente.”
