A new way to reduce bacteria and viruses in public spaces is coming late 2020 to Acuity Brands®. Using Care222® UV light disinfection technology, Acuity Brands luminaires will be designed to provide general illumination for spaces while incorporating independently modulated pulses of 222nm far-UVC light to reduce pathogens on surfaces. This special 222nm light source inactivates bacteria and viruses in short time periods at energy levels that meet today’s American Conference of Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH®) safety guidelines for worker exposure when used within appropriate parameters, allowing for use in occupied and unoccupied spaces in public facilities, such as in classrooms, office space, restrooms, retail stores, restaurants, and more. Acuity Brands continues to meet needs by creating these solutions that represent a significant advancement in protecting public areas against bacteria and viruses.
