City of Canton Case Study

The City of Canton is located in eastern Ohio, approximately 60 miles south of Cleveland and has a metro population exceeding 400,000. The U.S. Route 62 and Interstate 77 interchange in Canton, Ohio is a busy roadway, with a residential area that expands into an expressway and connects to a heavily traveled interstate. The approximately 1 ½-mile stretch of U.S. Route 62 and the interchange were previously illuminated by 400-watt high pressure sodium (HPS) high mast luminaires mounted on 11 galvanized steel 100-foot towers. The City of Canton owns and operates the lighting system and wanted to create a safer environment for drivers while significantly reducing energy consumption and maintenance
